The difference between Hermaphroditism and Intersex

When used as nouns, hermaphroditism means the state of having sexual organs of both the male and female sexes, whereas intersex means any of a variety of conditions (in a dioecious species) whereby an individual has male and female sex characteristics.


Intersex is also verb with the meaning: to make intersex.

Intersex is also adjective with the meaning: having characteristics of both male and female sexes.
