The difference between Hermaphrodite and Intersex

When used as nouns, hermaphrodite means an individual or organism possessing ambiguous sexual organs, typically including both types of gonads, whereas intersex means any of a variety of conditions (in a dioecious species) whereby an individual has male and female sex characteristics.

When used as adjectives, hermaphrodite means having gender-ambiguous sexual organs, typically including both types of gonads, whereas intersex means having characteristics of both male and female sexes.
