The difference between Boat and Dinghy

When used as nouns, boat means a craft used for transportation of goods, fishing, racing, recreational cruising, or military use on or in the water, propelled by oars or outboard motor or inboard motor or by wind, whereas dinghy means a small open boat, propelled by oars or paddles, carried as a tender, lifeboat, or pleasure craft on a ship.

When used as verbs, boat means to travel by boat, whereas dinghy means to travel by dinghy.
