The difference between Abase and Profane

When used as verbs, abase means to lower, as in condition in life, office, rank, etc., so as to cause pain or hurt feelings, whereas profane means to violate (something sacred).

Profane is also noun with the meaning: a person or thing that is profane.

Profane is also adjective with the meaning: unclean.
