The difference between Abase and Downgrade

When used as verbs, abase means to lower, as in condition in life, office, rank, etc., so as to cause pain or hurt feelings, whereas downgrade means to place lower in position.


Downgrade is also noun with the meaning: a reduction of a rating, as a financial or credit rating.
