The difference between Safe and Save

When used as nouns, safe means a box, usually made of metal, in which valuables can be locked for safekeeping, whereas save means in various sports, a block that prevents an opponent from scoring.

When used as verbs, safe means to make something safe, whereas save means to help (somebody) to survive, or rescue (somebody or something) from harm.


Safe is also adjective with the meaning: not in danger.

Save is also conjunction with the meaning: unless.
