The difference between Friend and Protagonist

When used as nouns, friend means a person other than a family member, spouse or lover whose company one enjoys and towards whom one feels affection, whereas protagonist means the main character, or one of the main characters, in any story, such as a literary work or drama.

Friend is also verb with the meaning: to act as a friend to, to befriend.
