The difference between Ally and Friend
When used as nouns, ally means one united to another by treaty or league, whereas friend means a person other than a family member, spouse or lover whose company one enjoys and towards whom one feels affection.
When used as verbs, ally means to unite, or form a connection between, as between families by marriage, or between princes and states by treaty, league, or confederacy, whereas friend means to act as a friend to, to befriend.
