The difference between Champion and Friend

When used as nouns, champion means an ongoing winner in a game or contest, whereas friend means a person other than a family member, spouse or lover whose company one enjoys and towards whom one feels affection.

When used as verbs, champion means to promote, advocate, or act as a champion for (a cause, etc.), whereas friend means to act as a friend to, to befriend.
