The difference between Overwhelm and Swallow

When used as nouns, overwhelm means the state or condition of being overwhelmed, whereas swallow means a deep chasm or abyss in the earth.

When used as verbs, overwhelm means to engulf, surge over and submerge, whereas swallow means to cause (food, drink etc.) to pass from the mouth into the stomach.
