The difference between Hoof and Toe

When used as nouns, hoof means the tip of a toe of an ungulate such as a horse, ox or deer, strengthened by a thick keratin covering, whereas toe means each of the five digits on the end of the foot.

When used as verbs, hoof means to trample with hooves, whereas toe means to furnish (a stocking, etc.) with a toe.
