The difference between Debuff and Status effect

When used as nouns, debuff means an effect that makes a game character weaker, whereas status effect means an effect that modifies a character's status, either positively (e.g. strength increase) or negatively (e.g. poisoning).


Debuff is also verb with the meaning: to make a character or unit weaker.
