The difference between Status ailment and Status effect
When used as nouns, status ailment means a negative status effect that adversely affects the afflicted character (such as being poisoned or blinded), whereas status effect means an effect that modifies a character's status, either positively (e.g. strength increase) or negatively (e.g. poisoning).
