The difference between Vestal and Virgin

When used as nouns, vestal means a virgin consecrated to vesta, and to the service of watching the sacred fire, which was to be perpetually kept burning upon her altar, whereas virgin means a person who has never had sexual intercourse, or sometimes, one who has never engaged in any sexual activity at all.

When used as adjectives, vestal means of or pertaining to vesta, the virgin goddess of the hearth, whereas virgin means in a state of virginity.
