The difference between Perch and Pike-perch
When used as nouns, perch means any of the three species of spiny-finned freshwater fish in the genus perca, whereas pike-perch means any of the five species of fish in the genus sander of the family percidae (perches and darters).
Perch is also verb with the meaning: to rest on (or as if on) a perch.
