The difference between Falchion and Sword

When used as nouns, falchion means a somewhat curved, single-edged medieval sword of european origin, with the cutting edge on its convex side, whose design is reminiscent of the persian scimitar and the chinese dao, whereas sword means a long-bladed weapon with a hilt, and usually a pommel and cross-guard, which is designed to stab, slash, and/or hack.
