The difference between Divorce and Separate

When used as nouns, divorce means the legal dissolution of a marriage, whereas separate means anything that is sold by itself, especially an article of clothing.

When used as verbs, divorce means to legally dissolve a marriage between two people, whereas separate means to divide (a thing) into separate parts.


Separate is also adjective with the meaning: apart from (the rest).
