The difference between Partition and Separate

When used as nouns, partition means an action which divides a thing into parts, or separates one thing from another, whereas separate means anything that is sold by itself, especially an article of clothing.

When used as verbs, partition means to divide something into parts, sections or shares, whereas separate means to divide (a thing) into separate parts.


Separate is also adjective with the meaning: apart from (the rest).
