The difference between Divide and Shear

When used as nouns, divide means a thing that divides, whereas shear means a cutting tool similar to scissors, but often larger.

When used as verbs, divide means to split or separate (something) into two or more parts, whereas shear means to cut, originally with a sword or other bladed weapon, now usually with shears, or as if using shears.
