The difference between Defame and Slander

When used as nouns, defame means disgrace, dishonour, whereas slander means a false or unsupported, malicious statement (spoken, not written), especially one which is injurious to a person's reputation.

When used as verbs, defame means to disgrace, whereas slander means to utter a slanderous statement.
