The difference between Defamation and Slander

When used as nouns, defamation means the act of injuring another person's reputation by any slanderous communication, written or oral, whereas slander means a false or unsupported, malicious statement (spoken, not written), especially one which is injurious to a person's reputation.


Slander is also verb with the meaning: to utter a slanderous statement.
