The difference between Unused and Used

When used as adjectives, unused means not used, whereas used means that is or has or have been used.

  1. Unused as an adjective (not comparable):

    Not used.

    Examples:

    "I have two unused vouchers for a free meal."

  2. Unused as an adjective:

    Not accustomed (to), unfamiliar with.

    Examples:

    "I am unused to the dark nights of the countryside."

    Examples:

    "You used me!"

  2. Used as a verb (intransitive, as an auxiliary verb, now only in past tense):

    to perform habitually; to be accustomed [to doing something]

    Examples:

    "He used to live here, but moved away last year."

    That is or has or have been used.

    Examples:

    "The ground was littered with used syringes left behind by drug abusers."

    That has or have previously been owned by someone else.
