The difference between Top and Vertex

When used as nouns, top means (irrespective of present orientation) the part of something that is usually the top, whereas vertex means the highest point of something.

Top is also adverb with the meaning: rated first.

Top is also verb with the meaning: to cover on the top or with a top.

Top is also adjective with the meaning: situated on the top of something.
