The difference between Surfeit and Surplus

When used as nouns, surfeit means an excessive amount of something, whereas surplus means that which remains when use or need is satisfied, or when a limit is reached.

When used as verbs, surfeit means to fill to excess, whereas surplus means to treat as surplus to requirements, to sell off.


Surplus is also adjective with the meaning: being or constituting a surplus.
