The difference between North and South

When used as nouns, north means one of the four major compass points, specifically 0, directed toward the north pole, and conventionally upwards on a map, abbreviated as n, whereas south means one of the four major compass points, specifically 180, directed toward the south pole, and conventionally downwards on a map, abbreviated as s.
