The difference between Foster and Parent

When used as nouns, foster means a foster parent, whereas parent means one of the two persons from whom one is immediately biologically descended.

When used as verbs, foster means to nurture or bring up offspring, or to provide similar parental care to an unrelated child, whereas parent means to act as parent, to raise or rear.


Foster is also adjective with the meaning: providing parental care to children not related to oneself.
