When used as nouns, ephemeral means something which lasts for a short period of time, whereas volatile means a chemical or compound that changes into a gas easily.
When used as adjectives, ephemeral means lasting for a short period of time, whereas volatile means evaporating or vaporizing readily under normal conditions.
