The difference between Comb and Crest
When used as nouns, comb means a toothed implement for grooming the hair or (formerly) for keeping it in place, whereas crest means a tuft, or other natural ornament, growing on an animal's head, for example the comb of a cockerel, the swelling on the head of a snake, the lengthened feathers of the crown or nape of bird, etc.
When used as verbs, comb means to groom with a toothed implement, whereas crest means particularly with reference to waves, to reach a peak.
