The difference between Ball and Bonk
When used as nouns, ball means a quantity of string, thread, etc., wound into a spherical shape, whereas bonk means a bump on the head.
When used as verbs, ball means to form or wind into a ball, whereas bonk means to strike or collide with something.
Ball is also interjection with the meaning: an appeal by the crowd for holding the ball against a tackled player. this is heard almost any time an opposition player is tackled, without regard to whether the rules about "prior opportunity" to dispose of the ball are fulfilled.
