The difference between Adopt and Borrow

When used as verbs, adopt means to take voluntarily (a child of other parents) to be in the place of, or as, one's own child, whereas borrow means to receive (something) from somebody temporarily, expecting to return it.


Borrow is also noun with the meaning: deviation of the path of a rolling ball from a straight line.
