The difference between Phone and Telephone

When used as nouns, phone means a device for transmitting conversations and other sounds in real time across distances, now often a small portable unit also capable of running software etc, whereas telephone means a telecommunication device (originally mechanical, and now electronic) used for two-way talking with another person (often shortened to phone).

When used as verbs, phone means to call (someone) on the telephone, whereas telephone means to (attempt to) contact someone using the telephone.
