The difference between Mono and Poly
When used as nouns, mono means the fatiguing viral infection mononucleosis, whereas poly means polytechnic.
When used as adjectives, mono means monaural or monophonic, whereas poly means polyamorous.
Poly is also verb with the meaning: to polymorph.
