The difference between Holiday and Vacation

When used as nouns, holiday means a day on which a festival, religious event, or national celebration is traditionally observed, whereas vacation means freedom from some business or activity.

When used as verbs, holiday means to take a period of time away from work or study, whereas vacation means to spend or take a vacation.
