The difference between Fission and Fusion

When used as nouns, fission means the process whereby one item splits to become two, whereas fusion means a nuclear reaction in which nuclei combine to form more massive nuclei with the concomitant release of energy.

When used as verbs, fission means to cause to undergo fission, whereas fusion means to combine.
