The difference between Face-to-face and One-on-one

When used as nouns, face-to-face means a meeting, especially a meeting between two people conducted in person as opposed to a meeting conducted at a distance through technology, whereas one-on-one means a contest involving only one player on each side, especially of an activity often involving teams.

When used as adjectives, face-to-face means in one another's presence, whereas one-on-one means involving direct communication between two people.


Face-to-face is also adverb with the meaning: while physically present.
