The difference between Explicit and Overt

When used as adjectives, explicit means very specific, clear, or detailed, whereas overt means open and not concealed or secret.

  1. Explicit as an adjective:

    Very specific, clear, or detailed.

    Examples:

    "I gave explicit instructions for him to stay here, but he followed me, anyway."

  2. Explicit as an adjective (euphemism):

    Containing material (e.g. language or film footage) that might be deemed offensive or graphic.

    Examples:

    "The film had several scenes including explicit language and sex."

    Open and not concealed or secret.
