The difference between Er and Um
When used as verbs, er means to utter the word "er" when hesitating in speech, found almost exclusively in the phrase um and er, whereas um means to make the um sound to express uncertainty or hesitancy.
Um is also interjection with the meaning: . see uh.
Um is also particle with the meaning: an undifferentiated determiner or article: a, the, some etc.
