The difference between Disavow and Recant

When used as verbs, disavow means to strongly and solemnly refuse to own or acknowledge, whereas recant means to withdraw or repudiate a statement or opinion formerly expressed, especially formally and publicly.

  1. Disavow as a verb (transitive):

    To strongly and solemnly refuse to own or acknowledge; to deny responsibility for, approbation of, and the like.

    Examples:

  2. Disavow as a verb (transitive):
