The difference between Deviate and Stray

When used as nouns, deviate means a person with deviant behaviour, whereas stray means any domestic animal that has no enclosure, or its proper place and company, and wanders at large, or is lost.

When used as verbs, deviate means to go off course from, whereas stray means to wander, as from a direct course.


Stray is also adjective with the meaning: having gone astray.
