The difference between Definiendum and Differentia
When used as nouns, definiendum means the term—word or phrase—defined in a definition, whereas differentia means a distinguishing feature which marks a species off from other members of the same genus.

Examples:
"In the defining statement "A lake is a large, landlocked, naturally occurring stretch of water", "lake" is the definiendum, "stretch of water" is the genus, and "large", "landlocked" and "naturally occurring" are the differentiae."
