The difference between Chip log and Log
When used as nouns, chip log means a simple device for measuring the speed of a vessel, consisting of a wooden board (drag) attached to a line on a reel, whereas log means the trunk of a dead tree, cleared of branches.
Log is also verb with the meaning: to cut trees into logs.
