The difference between Chicken and Hen

When used as nouns, chicken means a domestic fowl, gallus gallus, especially when young, whereas hen means a female chicken (gallus gallus), particularly a sexually mature one kept for its eggs.

When used as verbs, chicken means to avoid a situation one is afraid of, whereas hen means to throw.
