The difference between Author and Writer

When used as nouns, author means i, me, whereas writer means a person who writes, or produces literary work.


Author is also verb with the meaning: to create a work as its author.

    The originator or creator of a work, especially of a literary composition. I, me.

    Examples:

    "The copyright of any original writing belongs initially and properly to its author."

    "Have you read any Corinthian authors?"

  2. Author as a noun:

    Someone who writes books for a living.

  3. Author as a noun (obsolete):

    One's authority for something: an informant.

    To create a work as its author.

    A person who writes, or produces literary work.

    Examples:

    "Has your girlfriend written you another letter already? She’s quite a writer!"

    "I met some of my favourite authors at the writers' convention."

  2. Writer as a noun (historical):

    A clerk of a certain rank in the service of the , who, after serving a certain number of years, became a factor.

  3. Writer as a noun:

    Anything that writes or produces output.
