The difference between Article and Item
When used as nouns, article means a part or segment of something joined to other parts, or, in combination, forming a structured set, whereas item means a distinct physical object.
When used as verbs, article means to bind by articles of apprenticeship, whereas item means to make a note of.
Item is also adverb with the meaning: likewise.
