The difference between Addition and Extra

When used as nouns, addition means the act of adding anything, whereas extra means something additional, such as an item above and beyond the ordinary school curriculum, or added to the usual charge on a bill.


Extra is also adverb with the meaning: to an extraordinary degree.

Extra is also adjective with the meaning: beyond what is due, usual, expected, or necessary.
